Extra inservice days for secondary schools in October and February


The Scottish Government has given secondary schools only, 2 extra inservice days next year. This is to allow secondaries more time and support to work on the new curriculum. So, secondary school children in City of Edinburgh Council schools should not go to school on…

Health Award

Lorne Primary School this week was given a Level 3 Health Promoting School award. The school went through a morning of checks to see if our health work was good enough in the following areas...


- children feel happy, safe, respected and included.
- all staff are proactive in promoting positive behaviour in the classroom, playground and the wider school community.
- robust policies and practice ensures the safety and wellbeing of children. Other support is in place such as peer support, buddies, breakfast clubs, mentors, pupil support staff and extended support teams.

The award also recognises our work in teaching and learning within the following areas...

- mental, emotional, social and physical wellbeing
- planning for choices and changes
- physical education, physical activity and sport
- food and health
- substance misuse
- relationships, sexual health and parenthood.

Well done to our school communiity for achieving this recognition of working to improve health outcomes.

Green Flag for Lorne Primary School!

Congratulations to the Eco-committee of pupils, Mrs Lowe and  Miss Young. Thank you to all of the pupils, Parent Council  and staff too. In May 2012 Lorne received its Green Flag award for being an Eco-school. This recognises all of the work that is carried out every week to


- reduce, re-use and recycle resources
- reduce litter
- improve the biodiversity and quality of our school grounds
- learn about living a sustainable life and putting this into practice


This work will continue and we will keep you posted on what we get up to next!

Awfy Braw Scots Poetry!


Well done to our class and overall school winners of the 2010 Scots poetry recital competition. All children were asked to learn a piece of Scots poetry and recite it in class. Each class chose a winner to represent their class at a special assembly. The overall school winner was chosen from the assembly performances.

Lorne kids help Haiti


A big thank you to the pupil council which helped organise the Help Haiti Day. We are still counting all the coins that the kids laid on the maps of Haiti. Well done to everyone who appeared on the BBC's Politics Show to encourage other schools to help Haiti too!
